William Wines, my great great grandfather served in the war of 1812 and I would like to find records of his service.
According to the pension application which he submitted dated May 16, 1848, he enlisted in the company commanded by Lieutenant James Mcdowell, and Captain Campbell. The company belonged to the 3d rifle regiment commanded by Colonel William S. Hamilton. The company marched to the City of Washington, DC to repel the invasion of the British Army that destroyed the Capital of the US in the year 1814.
He was honorably discharged from the Service at Fort Osage on the Missouri River on the 8th day of August AD 1819 with a discharge signed by a Major Willoby Morgan.
I am particularly interested in getting whatever information about his family would be available through his enlistment information.I have tried, so far without success, to learn more about exactly where he lived in North Carolina where family records indicate that he was born in 1791 to Abner and Sarah Wines (Sarah's maiden name is not known by me)
If you have information that would help, I'd appreciate your responding to this post.
