Hi It is said that the War of 1812 is a forgotten American war. But I've been searching for census records 1790 & 1810 and such during this time period for New Jersey and see that they were destroyed in the War of 1812. Yet I've seen nothing in the history books about British occupation or battles taking place in New Jersey. All you find in British conflict at sea and the Canadian US boarders, the invasion of the Chesapeak, and the British invasion of New Orleans. Can anyone enlighten me more about this than the brief summarymany history books cover on the matter? Ben Oh I could understand that the censuses of 1790 & 1810 being kept in Washington DC which was attatcked & burned by the British. But like many documents of such importance I can't understand why New Jersey didn't have their own copy.
