Looking for any information or input about Jarrat/Jarret FINCH, husband of my ggg aunt, Elizabeth P. HILL FINCH OWENS.Online at familysearch.org, I found the U.S. War of 1812 Index to Pension Applications File (1812 - 1910) record which shows: Jarret FINCH - Unit: Capt. B. Nance's Co. Tennessee Militia; Spouse: Elizabeth OWENS Widow 37391.
I understand that there's very little information available about individual soldiers, but I'd like to know if the fact that his widow filed for a pension means that he actually served during the war, or does it just mean he was a member of a local militia? Is there any way to find out if his widow did receive a pension? He was living in Rutherford Co., TN in 1820 so I assume Capt. B. (Bird) Nance's Co. would have been in that area. Jarret died in 1837 in Weakley Co. TN, but I don't know the year of the pension application. Thanks for any help.Brenda
