Speaking of Cynthia Ann Parker, I was talking to woman at my ISP about genealogy and she told me she is a descendant of QUANAH PARKER!I almost fell over!I told her I knew exactly who he was.She said Cynthia starved herself to death when her daughter died while they were in custody of her white relatives after their capture.
There are towns here in Texas named after Quanah, his brother Pecos and father Nocona. In fact, Nocona is where the famous cowboy boots are made!
When I was a kid, I grew up on Indian and cowboy movies. Indians always fascinated me and so did a lot of reading about them.
One of my grt-grandfathers and his brother were captives of Indians in the 1700s in PA. for 8 years! After he had his own family, he encouraged his sons to go to the Black Fork County (later to become Ohio) to farm because he traveled that area with the Indians for years and knew the land was fertile...and some did.My ancestor's brother could not adjust to white man's life and returned to the Indians, married and had children.
My sister said the Indians got their revenge on the whites because they introduced tobacco to them.LOL
