As I recall, we suffered right at 50,000 casualties in the Bulge, and it had to have covered a vast expanse of area. It would be difficult for the average person to imagine.
I especially marvel and pucker up a little at your reference/description of what the weather conditions were like during the period of the battle, 16 Dec 44/25 Jan 45.
I was at Fort Meade, MD, in late Dec-44, undergoing winterizing, and being readied for my turn there. Our over-night 25 mile hikes in the dead of winter were rough at the time, but at least we had warm barracks to return to later.
Furtunately, the seige lifted, and our group was re-routed to Italy, just in time for the North Appenines and Po Valley Campaigns.
