Thank you for responding.Below is the informationI have concerning my father, Tech 5 Walter Wiswar's, military service in Europe.
A morning report from the 159th Infantry Regiment upon qualifying for a sharpshooter badge on January 23, 1945, Camp Swift, TX.
On his WD AGO 53-55 Separation form, his departure from the USA and arrival in the ETO coincide with the dates of the 159th's deployment given in S. Stanton's book, March 7 and March 18, 1945.
At the time of his separation he was with the 399th IR, 100 ID.
He returned to the USA on December 23, 1945 and was discharged on January 4, 1946.The 100th ID is listed as returning after this date, January 10 or 28, 1946.
In his scrap book in the center of one page is the shoulder patch of the 36th ID surrounded by his rank insignia, overseas stripes, 106 and 100 ID shoulder patches. This has led me to believe he may have been assigned to the 36th at some time. Also, the return to USA date for the 36th is December 22, 1945.
Also in his book there was a postcard of buildings in Bruchsal, Germany with hand writing under some as barracks and mess hall.I thought by knowing what military units were in this city I might be able to confirm who my father was with.
Any suggestion on where to go from here?Have you done any research at the records center?
