Denny - I don't know if I should even post this BUT-- The map the 893rd used in crossing France, Belguim and Luxemburg was a French Michelin road map!!! They had overlays which they placed on certain aresa beknownst to them and by using a protractor type gadget they computed the number of spaces by number and reported localities that way. When in Germany they used a road map of the Essen Mannheim area copied from a Conti Atlas in 1938. The same sort of gadget was used with the overlays. National Archives says the overlays are too fragile to copy.
I have both maps marked by Don re the path they took across this area. Some one had made notes on the back about scale etc. They definitely have been used.
I know I have said Don's records were lost and they were but some things such as these maps he sent to me right after the waw was over in Europe. Mary
