A second CORRECTION....

I transcribed a date wrong, in that I targetted 12 Dec 44, as his KIA date, whereas it was actually 22 Dec 44.
Continuing from the original submission, 30th ID was attached to V Corps from 21 Dec 44, until 3 Feb 45. So
V Corps becomes a potential source of information.
Having secured most of the area between the Rivers Inde and Roer, the division was rushed to the Malmedy-Stavelot sector 17 Dec 44, in response to the German assault in the Ardennes.
It held at Stavelot, as engineers destroyed the
Ambleve River bridge, but lost Stoumont, 19 Dec 44. After heavy fighting, Stoutmont was regained 22 Dec 44.
The division then cleared the region north of Ambleve River between Stavelet and Trius Ponts.
So it looks like he was possibly killed durin the re-taking of Stavelet, 22 Dec 44.
Another reference recalls that it was on 22 Dec 44 that General McAuliffe sent his famous reply "NUTS" to the surrounding Germans, demanding his surrender of the
101st Airborne Division at Bastogne.
That's all. Sorry for the booboo.
