The plane was "banking sharply to the left" to begin the bombing run. I believe they were at 1000ft but not sure. I don't have the report in front of me. May have been a power stall out or small arms fire. The plane broke apart on impact but no fire. When the patrol reached the site two airmen were out of the plane and on the ground. One was still alive but died soon after, the other was decapitated. It was two years before anyone went back to bury them. Two more to bring something back to St Louis. No individual identifications.
My brother was an engineer/gunner (top turret). I want to find out if he was one of the two mentioned above.
