My Uncle, Gordon K. Delo, served aboard the first USS Monssen (DD-436),which sank in the afternoon after the early morning battle of Nov. 13, 1942. I did find on the Danfsonline that there was another USS Monssen (DD798),that I didn't know.
My Mother wrote a letter in Jan. 1942 trying to find out about her brother. She received a reply from the Lieut. Comd'r. of the Monssen, March 2, 1943. In his letter he states that he is certain that my Uncle died, probably instantly at his station. Also the way he words the next sentence, it appears that he believed he went down with the Monssen when she sank.
After doing research on the sinking of the USS Monssen, it seems that there were 8 survivors rescued, in which only 5 lived.
I have looked through the messages on this site and found something about Individual Deceased Personal Files. There is an address, would they have the Naval casulities also.
