Hello Dan. I think if you were told his records were possibly lost in "the fire" at the Archives, you might have been getting the run-around. My understanding is that no Navy or Marine Corps files were included in those lost in the 1973 conflagration. I have heard accounts from people who, after meeting with no success at the Archives, had better luck with same through their Congressman's office. It might be something for you to consider. Have you accessed message #10907 in this forum? Among other possible sources listed there is the VA number. If he was wounded, he would have been eligible for compensation. If he applied for and received such, Dept of Vets Affairs should have info on him.
