In 1992 the gov't awarded the crew of the ship the Bronze Star. All it said on the certificate was for meritorious service from 7 Dec. 1941 to 1 Mar. 1942. It was for the defense of the Corregidor area. When they sent the Bronze Star the V was with it, so maybe you are entitled to the V.
