(07/25/2003) Andrew Ernest Jones, 89, of Bastrop, Texas, passed away on July 23, 2003. Born January 26, 1914, in Naruna, Burnet County, Texas, Ernest resided in Bastrop the past 40 years. A veteran of WWII, he served in the Navy for 10 years in the Pacific theater before being honorably discharged as a Chief Warrant Officer. Ernest retired in 1976 from the Lower Colorado River Authority after 40 years of service. He oversaw the construction of the Sim Gideon power plant on Lake Bastrop and was the plant's first superintendent. From 1976 to present, he was a bird dog trainer and guided hunts on many ranches in South Texas. He was a lifelong, devoted Lutheran and served the church in many capacities. Ernest is survived by his wife of 62 years, Margaret Luker Jones; his son, Michael Stephen Jones of Houston; grandson, John Michael Jones of The Woodlands; brother, James Jones of Rockdale; and sister, Glenn Fields of Lampassas. Ernest lived a long and full life, surrounded by his wonderful family and friends whose lives have been enriched by his spirit and devotion. Visitation will be held on Friday, July 25th with services on Saturday July 26th at 10:00 a.m. at the Marrs- Jones-Newby Funeral Chapel at 507 Old Austin Highway in Bastrop. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery.
