Initially, at the beginning of my father's war service, he was assigned as the communicaitons officer to the Hq&Hq Btry 593rd FA BN; then the Hq&Hq Btry 596th FA BN , then the Hq&Hq 93rd Division Artillery. He was later assigned to another Group.
He servedwith this division in New Caledonia, Guadacanal,Mono Islands, Bougainville and Green Islands. It is my understanding from research that the 93rd Division was labeled "Bloody Hand" and that the 593rd and the 596th were part of the 93rd Division.
It is also my understanding that most of these troops were african american. And that the officers were generally caucasian. It also appears that this was a controversial subject.
I am looking for others who served with these Battalions and the Division. My research has turned up little.
