MONROE D. CHESTER of Schulenberg, Texas passed away Monday, August 4, 2003 after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease. "M.D." was born in Glenmora, Louisiana on April 12, 1915 and moved to Houston as a young man. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in WWII during which time he served as a Radioman in the Philippines. He was a retired Deputy Fire Chief with the Houston Fire Department, a profession he held very dear to his heart. M.D. is preceded in death by his first wife, Lillian, to whom he was married 41 years, and his eldest daughter, Patricia Hargett. He is survived by his wife of 9 years Evelyn; daughters, Laura Ross and Sondra Breska; son-in-law, Stephen Ross; grandchildren, Crystal Ross, Christopher Ross and Matt Breska; stepson, Harold Schmidt, Jr. and wife Janet; stepdaughter, Lori Nelson and husband Tim; step grandchildren, Jason Schmidt, Eric Schmidt, Rachel Jones and Clayton Long. Funeral Services will be held at SouthPark Funeral Home, Pearland at 11:00am on Friday, August 8, 2003. Visitation will be Thursday, August 7, 2003 from 6 - 8pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 2909 W. Holcomb, Houston, Texas 77025.
