Recently received my fathers WWII records from St Louis Archieves.I feel very fortunate that his records survived the fire! Dad dold us stories about his war experiences and it's nice to have confirmation on where he was and what he was doing.Records confirm several Good Conduct Medals and 5 Bronze Stars. TSgt Edward J Rafferty was assigned to the 468th Bombardment Group (Heavy). He arrived in Karachi India on Nov 27, 1944. Medical records confirm he was in Kharagpur India on March 14, 1945. 468th moved to West Field, Tinian starting Apr 6, 1945. TSgt Rafferty arrived at Tinian on June 8th 1945 and was there when Enola Gay left to drop H bombs on Japan.Several days after the bombing he flew with reconiznance? flights over Japan and viewed the damage first hand.
On 12 Sept 1945 he was reassigned to the 792 Bombardment Squadron. He left Tinian on Oct 7 1945 arriving at Mather Field CA on Oct 10, 1945.
Any photos information about the 468th would be greatly appreciated.Thank you! Kristine
