While Louie had the name of the medal right, he did not have the information right in regards to the qualifications of its being awarded to a soldier, sailor, etc.
The medal was awarded to any combatant the saw service between 7 Dec. 1941 and 8 Nov. 1945 under any of the following conditions:
- On permanant assignment within the Theater of Operations.
- On temporary duty within the Theater of Operations for 30 consecutive or 60 nonconsecutive days.
- Awarded a combat decoration while involved in active combat against the enemy.
If the man participated in one or more operations, he was allowed to fix/attach a broze star to the ribbon.If he participated in 5 operations he replaced the 5 bronze stars with a silver one.The silver and bronze star should not be confused with the Silver Star Medal or the Bronze Star Medal.
