Be proud of the medal that your loved one was awarded. He is in good company. It means that he distinguished himself in combat. The Bronze Star was a medal that was awarded for bravery in combat. It was attached to a ribbon & was made from bronze & was shaped like a star; hence it's name. If it was awarded more than once, a small oak leaf was attached to the ribbon; ie. the Bronze Star with Oak Leaf. I believe the Silver Star was the higest award for bravery that could be given with the exception of the Congressional Medal Of Honor. The Silver Star looks very much like the Bronze Star except it is silver instead of bronze.
