Jack...Thanks for your response.I was in the medical detachment of that engineer battalion, mentioned in my posting, standing in our aid station tent, watching the Japs landing on the strip.Cooks and hq. personnel grabbed rifles and started acting as infantry soldiers.Our regular infantry was in the mountains taking care of other Japs.A couple of my friends were able to keep a Japanese flag as a souvenir, which is in the West Point Museum today. I agree that it was a night to remember.
