RECORDS DESTROYED IN 1973 FIRE
Have only copies of a few HOSPITAL RECORDS, obtained with the help of my National Service Officer..One dated, Feb. 1945, HEADQUARTERS, 1ST US INFANTRY DIVISION, Office of Div. Surgeon, APO 1, U.S. Army.It reads as follows: "this solddier was admitted with a diagnosis of "combat exhaustion, etc....he came to this usit in time to serve as an "aid man" thru Aachen, Hurtgen Forest and the "breakthru".He was in combat ETO 10 months. Received wounds in action in the Eur Afr Mid E T".Received the Combat Medical Badge July 1945. Discharge papers state, Battles and Campaigns, "Not Available".My question is two- fold, what is the "breakthru"and what medals would he be entitled to?First Division, 16th Infantry, Aid man.
