J.P.Johnson is correct, but the 93rd Evacuation Hospital was the site of the SECOND SLAPPING incident involving General Patton, then commander of US Seventh Army.
His target, Pvt. Paul G. XXXXXXX, 13th Artillery Brigade.
Patton was so irate that it was reported that he pulled a gun on the boy, and actually threatened to shoot him. Cooler heads prevailed. This was 10 Aug 43.
The FIRST SLAPPING incident took place exactly 1 week earlier, 3 Aug 43, at 15th Evacuation Hospital, just outside Nicosia.
Here the target was Pvt. Charles H. XXXX, Company "L",
26th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division.
Perhaps one of these dates will better fit your dad's receipt of the Order of the Purple Heart.
