1. County Courthouse, if separation or discharge papers were recorded. 2. State Historical Records Office (of state where vet resided at time of entry into service). Ask them to check service record cards, bonus records, and Reports of Separation that the state may maintain. Social Security Administration (if a claim for old age, survivor's, or disability insurance benefits has been filed and the service involved was from 7 Sept 39 to the present). 7. Railroad Retirement Board (if a claim for railroad retirement or survivor's benefits was filed). 8. Veterans organizations to which the vet belonged (e.g. American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans, etc).
