Perhaps I can give you a little about the 42nd. This comes from a book entitled, FIGHTING DIVISIONS.
It got its nickname in WWI when then Major Douglas MacArthur noted that the personnel was drawn from 26 states. He said "This Division will stretch over the land like a rainbow." It first faced the Wehrmacht in Dec. 1944, when under the th Army, it was given the role of plugging gaps and weak spots on the army's right flank near Saarbrucken.
It overtook the towns of Dahn and Busenburg. Then it took Schweinfurt, and joined the assault on Nurnburg. This division was the first to reach Munich, and from there it went to Dachau, and helped liberate 32,000 inmates int that prison camp. There is not much more to tell, as I see it in this book
