Yes, the Civilian Conservation Corps. was established during the Depression under FDR to provide work for men otherwise unemployed.They worked in state forest land, parks, etc. building dams, trails, recreation cabins and road improvements.The men worked in camps, and could walk to the nearest towns for R&R on Fri. nites.At Seneca State Forest in Pocahontas Co., WVA, the 4 acre lake's dam was built, trails blazed, rustic cabins built, large boulders moved.I don't know if the firetower was built then.One can still hike these trails and rent the cabins.The interiors haven't changed-the exteriors were renovated in the 1990's.
Try contacting the park or area where the CCC camp was located.You may even find photos.Seneca has a brochure on the history of the park, and seemed to know about the camp that used to be there.
