Greetings from Fort Worth, TX, Alan B. !!!
Just a line to confirm that the 65th. Infantry Division did land at La Harve,France
21 Jan 45, and entered Germany 10 Mar 45.
It went into combat that day. It was on line a total of 55 days, and experienced 2,302 casualties, killed and wounded, or approximately 16.3%.
It reached Austria 4 May 45, where it was deactivated 31 Aug 45.
It was at Linz,Austria 15 Aug 45, at war's end.
Campaigns: Rhineland, Central Europe.
I don't find a listing for the 124th. AAA Gun Bn., but do find the 546th. , which was attached to the division 4 Mar 45-past 9 May 45. This was the only AAA unit attached to the division. Maybe there was a change in designation along the way.
Your father's division was commanded by Major General Stanley E. Reinhart from Aug 43.
There is an interesting Combat Narrative for the division in WW II Order of Battle,
Shelby L. Stanton, author, Galahad Books, NYNY, publisher.
Hope this helps you in your quest.
With best regards,
Louie Franklin Turner.
