Don't know where exactly to post this, but most people on this forum seem very knowledgeable, so here goes..
Have a MOH ancestor who died in 1901 and is buried in Hayward, Alameda Co., CA.His medal was for gallantry during the Indian Wars in Montana.
Wouldn't he have had a special funeral ceremony at cemetery?I can not find any information, possibly because of the 1906 San Francisco earthquake and don't know if it affected Hayward, which is nearby.
Is there a veterans' organization in Hayward, Alameda Co., CA. that might have a record?
I have service record of ancestor but nothing was mentioned about funeral services. The cemetery does not have records of event. This ancestor never married so I cannot follow any descendants for more info.
