This is an instance where we have conflicting data.As LFT notes below, the dates don't jive. However you must remember that for official purposes the "official" date of death was assigned "one year and a day" after a person was declared missing. At that point his status was changed from MIA to KIA.So we can back the date of loss off to January 18, 1945.
We might ascribe the conflict of dates to typographic errors--JAN and JUN being the way the months are written in the military.
The other conflict is the notation on residence.Indiana vs. California. As this is the only person named Wildhack listed in archives it is apparent that it is the same person.
George A. Wildhack ID: 0-114731 Entered the Service From: Indiana Rank: Lieutenant Service: U.S. Navy, United States Naval Reserve Died: Saturday, January 19, 1946 Memorialized at: Honolulu Memorial Location: Honolulu, HI, USA Awards: Air Medal, Purple Heart
George Ayres Wildhack Lieutenant, Supply Corps Branch of Service: U.S. Navy Hometown: Santa Monica, CA Status: KIA
The notation in the WW2 Navy Roll of Honor for California states:
WILDHACK, George Ayres, Lieutenant (Supply Corps), USNR. Wife, Mrs. Mary Stuart Wildhack, 1031 3rd St., Santa Monica.
He isn't listed in the Indiana lists.
Drop me a line and I'll try to put you in touch with a resource where you might be able to acquire a report of the loss.
