May I add a little more information for your consideration?
From 1 Aug 44, the 6th A/D, which included 50th Armored Infantry Battalion, among many other elements was under General Middleton's US VIII Corps, as it moved in a SW direction from a site between Avranches, FR and Mortain, FR.
Their objective was Brest, which fell around 25 Aug 44.
I would assume that JQAC died on the approach to Brest, FR.
I recommend that you go to GOOGLE, enter , drop down to 6th A/D, for more of the story.
You will pick up the actual locations of the division's various command posts as it coursed thru Europe.
If you know when he left the states, and when he joined the 6th A/D, it could induce even more insight for you.
Iwish you a full recovery from your health problem.
