(NOTE: Ist ID sailed on the QUEEN MARY, and it was the first time an entire division of 15,125 men was transported via a single ship.)

England, 9 Aug 42;
assaulted Oran, North Africa, 8 Nov 42;

Go to GOOGLE, enter
< ETO Infantry Divisions Order of Battle WW II>
which brings up all of them.
Scroll to 1st ID, for the rest of the story.
I hope that this bit of information helps fill some of the profile you are developing.
There are 10 references to 1st ID operations, 2 for the
16th IR and 1 for Company C, 16IR, 1ID
in Stephen E. Ambrose's CITIZEN SOLDIERS
Do you have his separation papers ? That tells a lot .
Let me know if I may be of further service.
