Just spent the last couple of hours visiting the Arlington National Cemetery website and learned that some of the requirements for burial are:
Any former member of the Armed Forces whose last active duty (other than for military training) military service terminated honorably and who has been awarded one of the following decorations:
1.Medal of Honor. 2.Distinguished Service Cross (Air Force Cross or Navy Cross). 3.Distinguished Service Medal. 4.Silver Star. 5.Purple Heart.
There are provisions for wives and children, also.
So, since Lee Marvin was awarded the Purple Heart, he is in his rightful place. It must be up to surviving family members to request burial at Arlington.I have a grt-granduncle who was a Medal of Honor Recipent, but is buried at the Lone Tree Cemetery in Hayward, CA. A Naval Officer cousin was killed in the South Pacific who was awarded the Navy Cross and Purple Heart is buried at the American Cemetery in Manila (Philippines).
