I was in another part of the world at the time, so I didn't know of your father or of his unit.
However, Stanton's "WW II ORDER OF BATTLE", provides the following:
186th ECBN was activated 5 Nov 43,at Fort Jackson, S.C.;
departed SF P/E, 17 Nov 44;
arrived New Caldonia, 5 Dec 44;
arrived Philippines, 12 Jan 45.
arrived Japan,28 Feb 46.
14. Luzon, 15 Dec 44 / 4 Jul 45
15. New Guinea, 24 Jan 43 / 31 Dec 44.
Location at war's end,15 Aug 45;
I can't come up with a fix as to divisional attachments, but you may benefit by checking the combat history of the
33rd Infantry Division, for they were in the Luzon and
New Guinea campaigns too.
Try GOOGLE (MTO Order of Battle WW II>
I also recommend that you try GOOGLE , where you MAY be able to ID the ships he 'toured' on.
Sorry that I can't give you more.
Would you be good enough to let me know how this fits with the profile you have develped to this point?
Good hunting !!!
