Just a line to let you know (in case you don't know already) that Carl sailed out of Fort Dix, NJ, P-E on 12-11-42 on the AMERICAN, whose manifast included elements of the Second Armored Division.
It was a member of a convoy (number unknown) which arrived at Casablanca, French Morocco, 12-24-42. The division staged there, and entered combat in Sicily 2-10 July 43.
According to Stephen E. Ambrose in his excellent text, CITIZEN SOLDIERS, the division was on the line 223 days, with a casuality rate of 95.9%. That represents 981 killed in action, 4,557 wounded and 202 who died of their wounds.
I would like to know his departure site and date of departure for return to the states. I don't find any transport site or date compatable with 1-26-46.
