Hi! Thank you for your quick reply. I would appreciate any help you could provide -- just email me at my personal email address with fees, etc.
For starters, the government actually has the dates wrong. George Roy Maupin (the man I am writing about) has a marker at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver, Colorado, plot MB 0337, which states he was born July 13, 1916, and died Jan. 26, 1946 at age 29. But his death date is off.
I have a collection of abot 300 letters from Maupin and his family. The letters are very detailed and go up to his death. I also have the letters his mother received about his MIA status. An article, written by Army combat photographer Hal Geer, also confirms the dates. Maupin's wife is still living and can confirm the dates. So somehow the government gave him the wrong death date.
The names I have listed may be spelled wrong -- they are just the info I found through Maupin's letters and the Geer article. It's also a possibility that the Haley or others were not killed -- maybe they didn't fly that day for some reason. I'm not certain what happened to the aircraft, although Geer mentions that it went down during a monsoon over the Hump on 24Jan44.
Again, thank you for any help you (and any other people that read this) can provide, and I look forward to hearing back from you. Cheryl
