Good morning, Jack !!!
In response to your inqriry, I refer you to my posting #401, dated 9-5-99, in this forum.
I think that it will provide the information you are seeking. If not, please feel free to get back to me.
In addition, I determined that various elements of the 45th ID sailed from ports located in VA, all destined for Oran, Algeria. A listing follows:
6-4-43 from Hampton Roads, Va, HARRY LEE, carrying the 157th Infantry Regiment, 45th ID, in convoy (number U/K), arrived Oran 6-21-43.
6-8-43, from Newport News, VA, ANNE ARUNDEL,
with elements of the 180th IR and 2nd Chemical Mortar Battalion (1 company) , 45th ID. Arvd. Oran 6-21-43 in convoy.
6-8-43, from Newport News, VA, the BARNETT, with elements of the 179th IR and 2nd Chemical Mortar BN (1 company), 45th ID. Arvd. Oran 6-21-43 in convoy.
The division was not in combat in Africa. Instead, it was staged (trained) for the
subsequent invasion of Sicily, thence to campaigns in Italy, France, et al.
My list includes the following departures from North Africa:
7-8-43, departed Oran on the ANNE ARUNDEL, with elements of the 180th IR and 2nd Chem. Mort. BN (1 company). Arvd. Sicily 7-10-43 in convoy.
7-8-43, dptd. Oran on the BARNETT, with elements of the 179th IR, and 1 company from the 2nd. Chem Mortar BN. Arvd. Sicily 7-10-43 in convoy.
Finally, there is one certain sailing by the 45th ID back to the states listed.
9-4-45, sailed from Marseilles, France, on a
Victory Ship, arriving NYNY 9-12-45.
A second possible sailing is listed thusly:
11-21-45, sailed from Marseilles, France, on the SS WEBSTER VICTORY, "45th ID ? ", arriving NYNY 12-5?-45.
And that's about all I have for you.
With best regards,
Louie Franklin Turner
