WW2 80th Quartermaster Corp
I am searching for any information on the 80th Quartermaster Dep. Co.
My father PFC Clifford Hutchison went into the service towards then end of WW2 and was shipped overseas to a camp area around Leghorn, Italy from 1945-1946. I believe the name of the camp was the Leghorn Army Depot. This is where he met up with the 80th Quartermaster after they came out of Africa. One of his duties were to guard German POWs where they had an ice cream factory the prisoners worked in. And there was an airplane graveyard not far from their camp. I do not know the name of the camp or anything else, other than the 80th was in that area.
I have had people tell me that the 80th QMC never was in that area, but I have proof! It is on his discharge papers and he has pictures and I have spoken to a coupleof people who were stationed in the 80th right after my father was discharged. I was told that maybe his unit was absorbed into another unit. If so I would like to know which one, and how come it wasn't on his discharge papers.
I am looking for someone, anyone who knows of, or where I can get a list of camp the units ect.. Because my father doesn't remember what Company he was in ect. It wasn't put on his discharge papers. I would greatly apreciate it very much to be able to give him some closure on this period in his life, and to be able to tell his grand children and great-grand children about him and the people who served with him.
Thanks in advance for any help! I am very proud of my father's contribution to the war, even if he never saw any fighting!
