Gary - I don't understand why a priest would present a Purple heart. I have the orders for a few and they all say the following :
General Order #Name of Unit Address Date
AWARD OF PURPLE HEART - In accordance with AR 600-45, the Purple Heart is awarded to the following named officer and enlisted man of the battalion ( use appropriate designation) for wounds received as a result of enemy action at the place name and on the date below:
Wounded in the Vicinity of Vossenack, Germany Name of soldier Service # date enlistment address
Others may or may not follow.
The Order is signed by the unit commander and prepared by the Adjutant.
I have both a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star in their cases. The Purple Heart has no citation in it . The Bronze Star has a citation in it. It might be the difference is that a Purple Heart is issued for a wound received in battle only while a Bronze Star may be issued for Meritorious Service over a cetain period of time OR for Heroic Achievement over a certain period of time. The citation tells the difference. Mary
