My father, Ralph Edgar McCollum, servedin WWII, but his records were lost in the fire at the records center in St. Louis. My parents were divorced when I was young so there are no family records. What I do know:His rank was TSGT, service dates 11/07/42 to 11/27/45.From the items he brought home, he was in the Low countries (had the wooden shoes), his foor locker had all sorts of different paper money. My mother said he was in Germany. He had two German Tunics.I remember seeing a picture of him as a member of a Browning 30 cal. machine gun team.If my memory is correct, he had a triangular shoulder patch that might indicate 1st, 2nd, or 3rd Armored Div.Is that enough info to determine his unit of service???Also, his obit said he was a life member of the VFW in Ohio.Would they have any service records??All help appreciated.
