My father, Robert L. Admire (aka Bob) was a member of the U.S. Army Air Force during World War 2. He was stationed at Burtonwood Air Base near Warrington, England from August of 1943 until at least May, 1944 and may have been there as late as August, 1945. It appears that he worked on E Site in Hangar 6, possibly with a Captain Paulson and a Lt. Boland or Roland. I'm guessing that he was somehow involved with the C-47s as he had prior training with them at the Douglas factory in Oklahoma City prior to enlisting and was later a C-47 air crew chief. He has since passed away and I've found a number of photos of a woman identified as follows:
Miss Nora Chadwick 26 Meade Grove Longsight, Manchester
In researching this address, I found that the Electoral Register for May, 1945 shows the following occupants at this address: Elsie Chadwick, Margaret L. (Lois??) Chadwick, Norah Chadwick, & Richard W. Chadwick.
Some of the photos have another woman who bears a striking resemblance to Nora. She is identified only as "Lois". Some of these are labeled as being taken in the Welsh seaside resort town of Llandudno. There is also one picture of Lois and another unidentified woman. I'm wondering if the "L" in "Margaret L." could stand for "Lois".
Marion Chadwick Teague, Membership Secretary of the Chadwick Association has found that her grandfather, John Ellis Chadwick of Glossop (born 1877), wrote an entry in his diary in 1951 which references "R. Chadwick" of the same address. This would indicate that Richard W. Chadwick still lived at 26 Meade Grove as late as 1951. John Ellis Chadwick's parents were coincidently named Richard and Lois. Marion would like to find Nora to determine if theymay be cousins.
I also found pictures of
Miss Elsie Swift (2 pics) 290 Crow Lane West Newton Le Willows (sp) Lancs.
Miss Margaret Topping St. Helens Lancs.
All of these woman would have been born in the 1920's judging from the pictures. Most likely they married after the war and changed her name. Being a genealogist, I feel that their families would treasure these pictures, so I'd like to return them.
ANY info you might have on father, the men he worked with, or these women would be greatly appreciated.
