Hi Leslie, My mom was one of the Army nurses interned at Santo Tomas and my dad was with G Trp, 2nd Sqdn, 8th Cav Reg, 1st Cav Div. I have a few friends who were children at SantoTomas Internment Camp and they very fondly recall the 37th Infantry Division because the 37th Inf Div gave them daily reports of the battle action in Manila. My dad was at the fierce battle of Far Eastern University the evening of 3 Feb 1945, just afew blocks from STIC, before and during the liberation of STIC. The 37th Inf Div were sent into this battle the next day and there is a famous National Guard painting of the 37th Inf Div (free for the asking, in writing) of the battle for Manila, titled "For those who missed Normandy or Cassino, Manila would do."
Would you share any of the reports that cover the dates of January 31 - February 12, 1945? Please e-mail me at email@example.com.
