I just this moment came across your inquiry, and have a brief paragraph available descibing the situation at Narvik,Norway.
The Germans arrived by sea, 9 April 1940.
A British force was landed nearby, 15 April 1940.
Ill equipped, and untrained to operate in the snow, in spite of French reinforcements, they were unable to
make any progress against the German defences.
There was a change in commanders (don't know if G or B), after which the Allies captured the town, 28 May 1940.
It didn't pan out, for in the meantime, the German successes elsewhere in Norway allowed them to make heavy reinforcements in the Narvik area, and Allied troops were forced to evacuate the town.
My reference does not identify the forces involved in this operation.
I hope that this is helpful.
