Hello, His record consisted of only three pages, parts of which were unreadable.I have done a great deal of family research on the Civil War and prior conflicts, but I am very new with WWII research and am learning my way around.
The Honorable Discharge gives Mr. Carroll as Private, Hq. Co., 1173 Engr (C) Group, given at Oise Intermediate Section, Engineer School, Epernay, France APO 513.
There is another page, very dark, which is Enlisted Record Of, (some unreadable) of which the gist is: Active duty 23 Feb. 1944-17 Oct. 1945; Qualifications M-1, SS--15 July 1944; Specialty Rifleman--745; Engagements - Central Europe; Purple Heart for above campaign (Hosp 3 months); Served in E.T.O. from 10 November 1944 to 17 October 1945, signed by John A MacFarlane, 2nd Lt., CE Hq. Co., 1173 Engr (C) Group.
The third page is an Honorable Discharge with the 508th MP Bn, with enlistment 18 October 1945, in Epernay, France, with separation on 19 October 1948.
I have tried to do Google searches on the 1173rd and also to look on some military related websites I found through Cyndi's List.
