As a last resort, I have come across a reference in "2194 Days of World War II" , which states that II Corps was repulsed in an attack at Livergnano, "about 13 miles south of Bologna", on 12 Oct 44.
On 16 Oct 44, "The II Corps begins the last stage of the attack toward Bologna".
On 18 Oct 44, "The advance of the II Corps is still slow." (Weather related)
On 19 Oct 44, "In the 34th Division (II Corps) sector an attack is unleashed in the direction of M. Grande and M. Cerere."
The succeeding entries do not make further reference to a drive on Bologna.
There is no further mention of a successful attack or failed attack on Bologna, so that point 13 miles south of Bologna might have been as far north as the unit maneuvered until the 15 Apr 45 encounter.
SO, the 34th ID, 133rd IR was in the area of Bologna 29 Oct 44. AND the statement is probably correct as written.
Thank goodness for this one small reference, otherwise I would have denied it forever.
