At www.archives.gov (formerly called NARA.gov) there are WWII veterans names and enlistment rolls, plus POW rolls that you can view for free. You have to get to the AAD database then choose WWII records.
I found several Edward M. Anderson names, one a POW.
Do you know what state he came from? That would help narrow it down some for you. Check out the site on your own and see if one of the names belongs to your serviceperson and go from there.
And if you know what unit or regiment he served in, then you can find the miltary memorial or alumni site for that group and send an email to their membership secretary and get in touch that way.
