A prime mover is a truck. In British English a "lorry". A lorry large enough to carry a tank. Tanks were oftened carried to or from the battlefield by the Allied armies because it took less petrol. And, because driving the tank great distances on it's tracks made the tank less reliable on the battlefield.
In this case the tank may have been carried to the rear area to repair it's gun which had become loose.
