In case you don't know, the 11th A/D was engaged
at Lonhlier, Luxembourg, Belgium, on 30 Dec 44.
At the time it was assigned to VIII Corps, Third Army,
12th Army Group.
My reference states:
30 December 1944, Western Front.
"In the American 3rd Army sector, the VIII Corps begins to advance toward Houfffalize, a small Belgian town 3 miles from the border with Luxembourg.
Trying to cut the road south from Bastogne to Arlon, the Germans reach Lutrbois, and surround Villers-la-Bonne-Eau, cutting off some units of the 35th Infantry Division."
Another reference confirms this action:
"The division (11A/D) moved to the vicinity of Neufchateau 29 Dec 44, and attacked toward Houffalize against strong opposition 30 Dec 44, suffering heavy losses."
Captain Ameno must have died in this encounter.
Do you have any information as to when he went overseas?
This would be helpful in develooping a more complete profile for you.
