C. Fronzek - Probably you are right about those differences. So- How much of an allotment would a wife of a privatewho never advanced any farther in rank or left the US. I recieved $50 a mo. while Don was in trainig for 6 mos. Then as an officer I received no "allottment. However I do know from my husband's disgust about a man (Lt)who had made no allowance for his wife. Both were new Lts.-both married. My husband sent me from his pay and by dipping into his meals or lodging ( I don't know how that worked.) But his pay was $187 plus some room and board and he sent me monthly by a bank deposit to my bank acct. $200. However the Lt. who sent none was reprimanded by CO for not providing for her. He then did and took it all back!!!
Now the reason I asked is that I know a woman wife of an enlisted man whose husband never left the US who makes a big deal of the fact that her husband was drafted leaving her with 3 small children. Now she probably received $50 monthy. The children probably received some thing. What?
Why do I care? I guess I am a WW2 nut having lived through that period and would just like to know how every thing worked. Sorry about the length of this. And thank you for listening.Mary
