Jack - The $50 was not from his salary It was some sort of extra he had applied for for me while doing his 6 mos of training. The $200 was from his salary ofter he became a Lt. And I finished paying for our house and after I learned that he was in a bad train wreck in Germany on his way to the USA I used some more for a drainage system and water and bath room in our house. Don came to the States with nothing but Army pajamas, bath robe, paper slippers and a knap sack of off brand cigarettes. So some of it was used to provide him with complete Army uniforms, summer and winter to get him to the day he would be discharged. My O My Mary PS I got $20 a mo rent for our house (housing something made that assessment). It was on an unpaved country road that was not cleared in winter so I had to move to a city to find work and because of rationing put the car on blocks in storage. Rooms I rented cost almost as much.
What a time but even so I had it better than you men. Mary
