My dad was awarded the Bronze Star and I'm trying to find out why.He hasn't given many details of his service... what I remember from his sharing is I think his entire company received it.He was in the hospital and never got the medal.I applied for it and now have his medal in my possession and as a surprise, we will be giving it to him at his Regiment reunion in Sept. I have 2 questions... 1)I'd like to understand why he received it. 2)And I'd like opinions on an appropriate way to present him the medal... he's kind of a private person and not comfortable being center stage. Is it OK for myself and my 2 brothers (his sons) to present it to him or should a veteran officer do this?
Some details of his service are... He was in Company K, 324th Infantry, 44th Division. Service was from 2/20/1943 to 5/2/1946 He was wounded on Dec 4th, 1944 in France during the Rhineland campaign (I believe). He was in and out of hospitals for almost 18months.
