But, whether or not you can piece together the events leading up to his death is problematic. The National Archives has all the old military personellrecords which would be a good place to start. All identifiable dead were examined for the record before being intered. Those records are available but, can be rather graphic so caution is advised. There is a thread here that lays out how to get records but, I don't have the number.
