I can only add a little to the information you already have on the 211th FA BN.
It was activated at Cp Edwards, CA, 3 Feb 42; staged at Camp Kilmer, NJ, 9 Mar 44; departed NY P/E 11 Aug 44; arrived England 22 Aug 44; arrived France 15 Sep 44; arrived back in states at NY P/E 7 Mar 46.
Central Europe, 3-22-44 / 5-7-45 Northern France, 7-25-44 / 9-14-44 Rhineland, 9-15-44 / 3-21-45.
The unit manned a 4.5 inch tractor drawn gun. It was non-divisional, which means that it was assigned to various elements on an as-needed basis. As a result, there is a limited written documentation available. IT MAY WELL HAVE BEEN ASSIGNED TO THE NINETH ARMY.
I was in the 985th FA BN, II Corps, Fifth Army in Italy, and our outfit has the same identity problem. Not much more than a good sized paragraph in the Order of Battle.
I am sorry that I can't provide you with more insight into the 211th FA BN, but this is all that I have.
Hope it helps.
With best regards,
Louie Franklin Turner
